DANVILLE, KY – Centre College proudly presents “Ira Glass and Jad Abumrad: An Evening with the Creators of This American Life and Radiolab” on February 21, in partnership with media sponsor 91.3 WUKY. Held at the Norton Center for the Arts in Danville, this live onstage event will be layered with cinematic video, audio clips, original music compositions and the unique voices of National Public Radio trailblazers Glass and Abumrad as they take the audience on a journey through their careers in audio journalism and podcasting. “Through the generosity of Lillian and Leonard Press, the Press Distinguished Lecture Series was created to celebrate ideas that enrich our civic and cultural life,” said Dr. Milton Moreland, president of Centre College. “Bringing together Ira Glass and Jad Abumrad, two of the most influential figures in public radio, this year’s event exemplifies the creative and investigative storytelling that helps shape how we understand the world.” Ira Glass is the host and creator of This American Life, a public radio program and podcast that reaches more than 3 million listeners each week. Centered around real human stories, each episode is brought to life through thoughtful reporting, music and storytelling. Under Glass’s direction, This American Life has won the highest honors for broadcasting and journalism, including seven Peabody Awards and the first Pulitzer Prize ever awarded for audio journalism. Jad Abumrad is the creator and former host of Radiolab, a public radio program that uses investigative journalism to explore the answers to important questions. Abumrad has won three Peabody Awards and was honored as a MacArthur Fellow in 2011. In 2019, he created the Peabody Award-winning Dolly Parton’s America, and he is currently a Distinguished Research Professor of both Cinema and Media Arts and Communication of Science and Technology at Vanderbilt University. “WUKY is very excited to be the media sponsor for an evening sure to be filled with thought-provoking conversations from two of the most recognizable voices on public radio,” says Bryan Lane, WUKY Station Manager. “WUKY is also proud to be the only public radio station in Central Kentucky to be airing both RadioLab and This American Life during our weekend schedule.” Tickets to “Ira Glass and Jad Abumrad: An Evening with the Creators of This American Life and Radiolab” are on sale now and can be purchased at nortoncenter.com, by calling 1-877-HIT-SHOW or by stopping by the Norton Center Box Office, Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. |
